What we're doing...

Earlier this year, after experiencing the sudden deaths of our fathers within weeks of each other, my girlfriend Robin and I started doing a bit of soul searching.

The jist of what came out of this is a realization that if one has an ultimate "to do" list, one better get it done sooner, rather than later. Otherwise, impending death would not only include fear of the unknown - but bitter disappointment for not doing the things that were most important.

Further realizing that life is short and there is no perfect time to do anything, we picked a date at random about three months out, bought one way plane tickets, and started the process of notifying everyone from friends to employers.

Where? Nuremberg, Germany. Yes, the former center of Nazi power and the place of the trials, but today a very beautiful small city with a castle, a river, lots of hiking and nature, a big connection to music, art and good food - and with the lowest crime rate and rents in Germany.

We have just about finished the leasing negotiations for our flat. We have sold almost all our furniture, and have almost finished sealing some boxes to be sent this week.

We leave on the 10th. More to come.
